Children’s (Kids) Dentistry In Montebello
At Ocean Smiles Family Dentistry, we welcome children to our practice, and we understand that they have unique dental needs.
Many adults who are fearful of the dentist report that it is because they had a bad experience at the dentist as a child. Dr. Chen understands how important it is to help your child feel comfortable at the dentist now in order to have successful visits in the future and throughout their lives.
Building relationships with children and creating a positive and upbeat experience for them each time they visit is Dr. Chen’s priority, and we do this by explaining to them exactly what’s happening and what we’re doing during their appointment. We will never move forward with any form of treatment until your child feels completely comfortable.
Your Child’s First Visit
Dr. Chen likes to see children for their first dental visit around the age of two or three years old. Much of the first visit is spent giving them a ride in the “big chair,” and counting their teeth. We will also clean their teeth if they feel comfortable, but it is more important early on to make sure that they feel welcome and at ease.
Children should visit the dentist every six months, just like adults. This gives Dr. Chen the opportunity to monitor your child’s oral development so any concerns can be addressed early on.
As Your Child Grows
As your child gets older, some additional services such as fluoride treatment and dental sealants may be recommended for them.
The fluoride found in drinking water is often not enough to protect your child’s teeth from cavities. Fluoride treatments give extra protection against tooth decay and can also help remineralize teeth that have already been affected by decay. Fluoride treatments are easy and can be completed during a cleaning and checkup appointment.
Dental sealants are a thin protective covering applied to the chewing surfaces of your child’s teeth. The sealant fills in the grooves and protects teeth from the acids and bacteria that cause tooth decay. Sealants are a non-invasive treatment and can typically be completed during one short appointment.
If your child plays sports, Dr. Chen is happy to discuss and recommend the right mouth guard for their needs. Custom mouth guards offer better protection than those that can be purchased at a sporting goods store. Protecting your child’s teeth and mouth from injury is important, as around half of dental emergencies are sports related.

If you are looking for a great dentist in Monterey Park, Montebello, or East Los Angeles check out Dr. Chen. I have had check-ups, cleanings, root canals, and bridge work. I can confidently recommend the staff here. The dental work is first rate, and the work is done in a reasonable amount of time.
