Crowns and Bridges
Living with a tooth that is compromised takes a toll on your daily life. It can make chewing and eating challenging, which can affect your nutrition. It may also cause you to feel self-conscious about smiling or talking to others, which diminishes your confidence.
Whether your damaged tooth needs to be repaired or replaced, your Los Angeles dentist at Ocean Smiles Family Dentistry can help!
What Is a Dental Crown?
There are a few situations in which Dr. Chen may recommend a crown for you, such as:
- A tooth that is decayed or damaged beyond what a filling can repair
- A large or old restoration that is failing
- A tooth that has been weakened from a root canal
- Cracks or fractures in your tooth
A crown allows you to eat, chew, talk, and smile as you did before, and it’s easy to care for since you’ll brushing and flossing like you normally do. A crown replaces your entire tooth while protecting your natural root.
Dr. Chen uses the finest materials and works with the top local laboratories to ensure that you receive a restoration that delivers all the esthetics and function you had before.
What Is a Dental Bridge?
If you are missing one or more teeth in a single location, a dental bridge may be an ideal solution for you. A bridge uses one or more prosthetic teeth attached to dental crowns on each side. The crowns utilize your healthy teeth as anchors and support for your bridge.
The key to keeping your bridge healthy and sustaining its longevity is to keep your anchor teeth clean with excellent brushing and flossing each day.
Dental implants can be used to support a bridge in some situations. Implants are used as the anchors for the bridge, allowing patients to enjoy the benefits of longevity and stability that dental implants offer.
What to Expect
The process of getting a crown can typically be completed over a period of about two to four weeks and usually requires two appointments. Dr. Chen will prepare your tooth for your crown at your first appointment, and you will leave wearing a temporary crown that helps you get used to the appearance and feeling of your new tooth.
It takes a week or two for your new restoration to be hand crafted at a dental laboratory, and then you’ll return to Ocean Smiles Family Dentistry to have it permanently placed.
Crowns and bridges offer an excellent way to repair or replace a damaged tooth without compromising the esthetics of your smile, so don’t delay your treatment if you have tooth that needs to be repaired. Contact your team at Ocean Smiles Family Dentistry to schedule an evaluation today.
